Forging great connections: UK – Ukraine Chernobyl workshop

The Department’s NucleUS Immobilisation Science Laboratory is working with the National Academy of Science of Ukraine to support decommissioning of the Chernobyl shelter, 30 years after its construction, supported by EPSRC’s Global Challenge Research Fund.

Here PhD student Sarah gives an overview of the 2 day workshop.

The topics covered were very interesting and there is quite a range of research that has potential to be utilised at the Chernobyl site and others. Some of the remote robotics designs are amazing: snakes, quadrupeds, lunar lander styles and my favourite, the 2m long, 250kg mechanical spider design!
